PRESS RELEASE The seventh challenger for Act 1 of the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series is announced today in the form of Chris Steele's New Zealand-flagged Tawera Racing, which will compete as a full season entry. The team has been formed to give New Zealand's elite youth sailors a launch pad into the cutting-edge world of foiling multihull racing. With a mix of previous Extreme Sailing Series competitors from the GC32 era and New Zealand's finest fresh-faced youth sailors, this newly-formed squad should throw up a strong challenge to the well-established and seasoned crews it will face as it takes to the water on 8 March.
PRESS RELEASE Another busy year lies ahead for the International Maxi Association, the body which for more than 30 years has represented the interests of maxi boat owners from around the world. The 2017 calendar, open to owners of all maxi boats (ie 60+ft LOA), features two new events in the Mediterranean; a four race championship running through the season; another record turn-out for September’s Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup; the year concluding with a special running of the RORC Transatlantic Race.

Following their participation in the inaugural GC32 Championship - also being staged in Muscat - the GC32 Racing Tour teams ENGIE and Team Tilt will compete in the Extreme Sailing Series season opener in Oman in less than two weeks' time.
PRESS RELEASE Maserati Multi70, the state-of-the-art ocean racing trimaran skippered by Giovanni Soldini, has finished in second place in the RORC Caribbean 600 Race after a race-long high-speed match race with the American trimaran, Phaedo3. The two crews were locked in close combat for virtually the entire race as they matched each other’s every move around the course play for play.
They may both be well off record breaking pace after 24-hours of uncharacteristically fluctuating breezes in the Caribbean but the intensity of the battle between the partly foiling Maserati Multi70 skippered by Giovanni Soldini and the conventionally configured MOD 70 Phaedo3 skippered by Brian Thompson has been a site to behold. After a little over a day of cat and mouse racing here was less than half a mile between them today with 180 miles to run.
The unwelcome arrival of a rogue low-pressure system over the racecourse means it hasn't all been champagne sailing for this year's 80-boat RORC Caribbean 600 Race fleet. However if the conditions featured in this video from yesterday's staggered start are a fair indicator of what it can be like then it's really no wonder this race is going from strength.
Dismasted Vendee Globe skipper Conrad Colman is - in every sense of the phrase - running on empty. After 107 days at sea the round the world solo sailor is down to his emergency food rations and is desperately low on electric power as he edges his jury rigged IMOCA 60 Foresight Natural Energy towards the finish line of Les Sables D'Olonne.
PRESS RELEASE The ninth edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 Race got underway today from Antigua. The high-tech Italian ocean racing trimaran, Maserati Multi70, skippered by Giovanni Soldini crossed the start line off Fort Charlotte on the south side of the island in 10-knot westerly breeze at 11.40 local time (15.40 in Europe).
